Lesson 13: Clones Are the Same
Teaching Content:
Oral words and expressions: laboratory

1.Practice the students’ spoken English.

Type of lesson: new lesson
Teaching Procedure:
Step1. Talk about the question “What would you like to clone?” in groups. They can use the following patterns:
What would you like to clone? Why?
Give the students five minutes. Then let them act their dialogues out in front of the class.
Step2. Listening task:
Listen to the tape and answer the following questions:
1.Jenny would like to clone a dog.
2.Danny would clone himself.
Finish the task in class in oral.
Step3. Reading task:
Scan the text and answer the following questions:
1.What would Jenny like to clone?
2.What would Brian like to clone?
3. Why would Danny like to clone himself?
Finish the task in class in oral.
Step4. Read the text again and find the main idea of the text. Ask some students to say it in front of the class.
重点语句分析:
1。Too many Dannys太多的丹尼
too many“太多”,后面跟可数名词的复数形式。
The boy has eaten too many grapes. He doesn’t feel well now. 这男孩吃了太多的葡萄,他现在感到不舒服。
【辨析】: too much与much too
1) too much“太多”,后面跟不可数名词。
Watching TV too much is bad for your eyes. 看电视过多对你的眼睛有害。
I have too much homework to do. 我有很多作业要做。
2) much too“很,非常”,常用来修饰形容词或副词。
The coat is much too large for me. 这件大衣我穿这实在太大。
2.I would like to clone an animal that no longer lives in the world. 我想克隆一个将不久于世的动物。
1)would like意为“想要”,其语气比用like婉转些。具体用法如下:
a.后面接名词或代词,表示具体“要”某样东西。
I’d like two sweaters for my daughters. 我想给我的女儿们买两件毛衣。
Would you like one of these mooncakes? 你想要一块这样的月饼吗?
b.后面接动词不定式,表示“愿望,喜爱”,常用于有礼貌地提出要轻、请求或建议。
I would like to drop math. 我想放弃数学。
Would you like to come? 你愿意来吗?
c.当主语是第一人称时,would可与should换用,他们都可以缩写为’d,并且like也可换成love。
I’m sure he would love to come. 我确信他愿意来。
I should like the red one. 我想要红色的。
d. would like后面可以用动词不定式作宾语补足语。
What would you like me to do? 你想要我做什么?
I’d like you to meet my parents, too. 我想要你也见见我的父母。
2)no longer“不再”,常用来修饰延续性动词。位于be动词之后,行为动词之前。其同义词组是not…any longer。
She no longer went there. =She didn’t go there any longer. 她不再去那里了。
You are no longer young.=You are not young any longer. 你不再年轻了。
3.Then in my laboratory, I would make a new one! 然后在我的实验室里,我将克隆一个新的动物。
one代词,指代前面出现的人或物,复数形式为ones。
I don’t have a book; Can you lend me one? 我没有书,你能借给我一本书吗?
【辨析】:one, that与it
one表示泛指,that和it表示特指。that与所指名词为同类,但不是同一个,而it与所指名词为同一个。
I can’t find my hat. I think I must buy one. (不确定)
我找不到我的帽子了。我想我该去买一顶。
The hat you bought is bigger than that I bought. (同类但不是同一个)
你买的那顶帽子比我的大。
I can’t find my hat. I don’t know where I put it. (同一物)
我找不到我的帽子了。我不知道我把它放在哪儿了。
4.what about +   doing sth.              ?  ……怎么样?
        When 从句
What about…?“……怎么样?”“……行吗?”(用于征求意见,询问消息)
I’m twelve years old, what about you? 我12岁,你呢?(后接代词)
What about the weather? Is it going to go worse? 天气怎么样?会变得更坏吗?(后接名词)
--What about some cakes? 吃点蛋糕好吗?
--Oh! Thanks. 啊!太感谢了。(后接名词)
What about going to fly kites? 我们去放风筝,怎么样?(后接动名词)
--We stand up when the teacher comes in. 老师进来时我们起立。
--What about when he leaves? 老师离开时怎么做?(后接从句)
what about的同义词组为how about,其用法和what about一样。
I’ll have orange juice. How about you? 我喝橘子汁,你呢?(后接代词)
How about playing football now? 现在踢足球怎么样?(后接doing)
How about coming with us to the club? (你)和我们去俱乐部,怎么样?(后接doing)
5.I was thinking of cloning my self then times. 我正想把我自己克隆十次。
think of考虑,想起,关心,有的看法,记起,其同义词组为think about。
We are thinking of going to England. 我们正考虑到英国去。
I can’t think of his name at the moment. 我一时想不起他的名字。
What do you think of my dancing? 你觉得我的舞跳得怎么样?
Have you heard of cloned animals? 你听说过克隆动物吗?
hear of“听说,得知”,其同义词组是hear about。
I’ve never heard of anyone doing that. 我从未听说有人做那种事。
--Who’s he? 他是谁?
--I’ve never heard of him. 我从未听说过他。
Have you heard about Julia coming to Shanghai? 你有没有听说过朱莉娅到上海来了?
6.If you were a scientist, what would you try to clone? 如果你是个科学家,你想克隆什么?
try to do努力去做某事,尽力做某事,但不一定成功。
He tried to find out the answer to the question, but he failed. 他努力去寻找这个问题的答案,但没有找到。
【知识衔接】:
trying doing试图做某事
--I always go there by train. 我总是坐火车去那里。
--Why not trying taking a bus for a change? 为什么不试试改坐汽车吗?

Step5. A Game
Make up a similar dialogue according to the text. Finish the task in groups of three or four. Give them five minutes. And them ask the students to present their dialogues in front of the class.
Step6. Discussion
Discuss the use of the clones of yourself. If you have a clone of yourself, what would you like him to do for you? Do you think it is very useful?
Step7. Come to “PROJECT”.
Divide the class into groups of three or four. Talk about the subject “Have you heard of cloned animals?” The next is “If you are a scientist, what would you like to clone? Why?”
Talk about the subjects in groups. The students may have five minutes to finish the task. Then try to present your result to the class in front of the class.
Step8. Homework
1.Finish off the exercises in activity book.
2.Go on the next reading in the student book.
Summary:
Cloning is new to some students. It is useful to give them more time to talk about the subject. They can find more information about cloning on the Internet or with other tools. Encourage them to know more after class by themselves.
