Lesson 14: A Clone of My Own
Teaching Content:

Teaching Procedure:
Step1. Talk about the question:
Would you like to have a clone of yourselves? Why?
Finish the task in groups. Give the students five minutes to discuss the subject. Then let the students present it in front of the class.
Step2. Listening task:
Listen to the tape and answer the flowing questions:
1.How old is Kate?
2.What does “foolish” mean?
Finish the task in class in oral.
Step3. Scan the text and decide the following statements are True or False:
1.Katie would like a secret clone.
2.Katie already has three sisters.
3.Katie’s clone would live the living room with Katie.
Finish the task in class in oral.
Step4. Read the text again and try to find the sentences with the new words.
What does Katie mean by “a secret clone”?
I doubt what she says!
“Foolish” means “silly or stupid”.
Also, she would play chess with me.
Maybe I need a robot!
She would feed my tow cats, clean my room and practise my flute.
Step5. Ask some students to tell the main idea of the text. Let some students say it in front of the class.
重点语句分析:
1.Do you want a twin brother or sister? 你有一个双胞胎的兄弟或姐妹吗?
【辨析】:twin与twins
1)twin作名词时,表示“双胞胎之一”“孪生儿之一”,其复数形式为twins。意思是“孪生儿”“双胞胎”。二者用法却不同。twin一般只用作定语,此时常与形容词性物主代词连用。如:
Lily is her twin sister. 莉莉是他的孪生姐姐。
His twin brother is Jim. 他的孪生哥哥叫吉姆。
2)twins可作主语、表语,也可作宾语。做主语和宾语时常与定冠词the连用。如:
The twins are in the same class. 那对双胞胎在同一个班级。
Who’re the twins? 那对双胞胎是谁?
【拓展】:
twins做主语时,谓语动词必须用复数形式。作表语时twins一般不与the连用。
莉莉与露西是双胞胎。
2.Does Kate want to have another sister? 凯蒂想有另外一个姐妹吗?
another用于泛指三个以上的不定数目中的“另一个”,后面可以加单数名词,也可以省略后面的名词,用作代词。
I don’t like this coat. Please give me another (one). 我不喜欢这件外套,请再给我拿一件。
another还可以修饰被看成一个整体的“基数词+复数名词”词组。
I have another three days’ holiday. 我有另外3天假期。
【知识衔接】:
1)other作前置定语,修饰单复数名词。
Do you have any other question? 你还有其他问题吗?
What other things can you see? 你们还能看见什么其他的东西?
2)the other是表示两者中,特指的“另一个”或“另一部分”。
They have two children. One is a boy, the other is a girl. 他们有两个孩子,一个是男孩,另一个是女孩。
There are six people in the room. Four are students and the other two are teachers. 房间里有6个人。4个是学生,另外2个是老师。
3)others用作代词,泛指“其他人”或“其他事物”。
Some are singing, some are drawing, others are swimming. 有些人在唱歌,有些人在画画,其他人在游泳。
Some are new and others are old. 有些是新的,另外一些是旧的。
4)the others是指整体中除去一部分之后的全体。
There are 45 students in our class, and 25 of us are boys, the others are girls. 我们班有45名学生,其中25名是男生,其余的是女生。
3.I think it would be fun to have a clone—a secret clone. 我想有一个克隆的自己—一个秘密的克隆地自己将是非常有趣的。
1) secret adj. 保密的;只有少数人知道的
Don’t tell anyone about our plan, keep it a secret—it’s a secret plan. 不要对任何人将我们的计划,要保密—这是一个秘密计划。
Someone has stolen the secret formula for the new drug. 有人盗走了我们新药的秘密配方。
【拓展】:
secret n.秘密,神秘,秘诀
That’s the secret of nature. 那是大自然的奥秘。
What is the secret of his success? 他成功的秘诀是什么?
2)fun的用法
a. fun用作抽象名词,意为“高兴,乐趣”,不可数,前面一般不加冠词。
What fun we had! 我们玩得多高兴呀!
Swimming is the sea is great fun on holidays. 在海里游泳是假期的一大乐事。
b. fun表示“有趣的人或事”,也可用作不可数名词,不加冠词。
It’s not much fun going to a party alone. 独自一个人去参加聚会没意思。
c.习语make fun of意为“取笑”。
It is wrong to make fun of a cripple. 嘲笑残疾人是不对的。
d. have fun意为“玩得高兴,过得快活”,fun前通常有no, much, a lot of等修饰语。
We have a lot of fun in the park. 我们在公园里玩得很开心。
4.I hope my clone wouldn’t eat too much. 我希望我的克隆人不会吃得太多。
hope v.希望,期望,信赖
I hope to see you soon. 我希望尽快见到你。
Let’s hope for the best and prepare for the worst. 我们存最好的希望,做最坏的准备。
【拓展】:
“希望做某事”可以说hope to do sth.,但不可以说hope sb. to do sth.,hope后可跟that从句作宾语。如:
1)跟从句
They hope that they can visit China someday. 他们希望有一天能访问中国。
I hope you haven’t hurt yourself. 但愿你没有受伤。
2)跟不定式
We hope to hear from you soon. 我们希望不久能收到你的来信。
You can’t hope to win an easy victory. 你不能指望侥幸取胜。
5.That might be a problem. 那或许是一个问题。
problem问题,习题;有困难的问题,有待解决的问题。如:
The teacher set us some difficult problems. 老师给我们出了些难题。
The problem is how to get money for the project. 问题是如何为工程筹集资金。
【辨析】:question与problem
question和problem都是名词,都表示“问题”。question意义广泛,多指要求回答的问题,而problem是指较难或有待解决的问题。
6.She’d better not! 他最好不去!
had better(常简略为’d better),用于表示对别人的劝告、建议,表示一种愿望。其具体用法有以下几点:
1)had better后面必须跟动词原形。如:
You’d better go to hospital at once. 你最好立即去医院看病。
2)主语不论是第几人称,句子不论是什么时态,都要用的形式。如:
Now you (he, we) had better listen to the teacher. 你(他,我们)现在最好听老师讲。
3)had better可用于的时态。
You had better be quiet. 你最好安静一些。
We had better be watching the TV play. 我们最好现在就看电视剧。
4)had better的否定式。
常用的否定形式是将否定副词not直接放在had better的后面。
You had better not miss the last bus. 你最好不要错过末班公共汽车。
You had better not leave for Nanjing the day after tomorrow. 后天最好你不要动身去南京。
5)had better的疑问式。
had better通常不以普通疑问句的形式出现。但有时用于否定以文具,常用Hadn’t+主语+better…?结构,作为一种劝告形式,比肯定形式的语气更婉转一些。如:
Hadn’t you better take an umbrella? 你不认为该带一把伞吗?
Hadn’t you better ask him first? 你不认为该先问问他吗?
7.It’s fun because your mother can’t tell you apart! 那是非常有趣的,因为你的母亲分辨不出来。
tell apart分辨:
--Can you tell the twin girls apart? 你能分辨出这两个双胞胎女孩子吗?
--I can’t tell them apart. 我分不请她们。
8.Make a dialogue with a partner and act it out in front of the class. 同你的同伴编一个对话,并在同学们面前表演一下。
in front of在……前面
in front of通常相对于某物体的外部来说,指令外的物体或人位于该物的前面。
意为“在的前面”,也可指“在某人的前面”。如:
There are some big trees in front of the classroom. 教室前面有一棵大树。(强调在教室的外部)
in front单独使用,笼统的指某人或物“在……前面”。如:
Now they are in front. 现在他们在前面。
【拓展】:
不同的“在……前面”。
1)in front of通常相对于空间而言,指某人或物位于某个空间的内部,但它指的是物体的内部,意为“在的前面”。如:
There are two girls reading in the front of the classroom. 教室的前面有两个女孩在读书。(强调在教室内部)
2)at the front of通常相对于地面而言,指某人或某物位于某空间内部的某个位置上,应将这个位置看成一个点,意为“在……的前面”。如:
Wei Hua sits at the front of the classroom. 魏华坐在教室的前面。(强调前面的一点)
Step6. Group Work
Talk about the subject in groups. Talk for about five minutes. If you have a clone of yourself, what would you like her or him to do for you?
Write what you think of down on a piece of paper. Then exchange their ideas in groups. One of the members sum what they think of. Then present it in front of the class.
Step7. Come to “LET’S DO IT”.
Finish the task in pairs. Make up a dialogue with a partner and act it out in front of the class.
Encourage them to make the story funny.
Make the ending surprising.
Step8. Homework
1.Finish off the exercises in activity book.
2.Go on the next reading in the student book.
Summary:
It is fun to give the students chances to speak in front of the class. Sometimes they think they are not happy in their daily life. They don’t want to do something sometimes, so they want someone else to do it for him or her. Maybe some students think clones of themselves are useful to them.
